Full Description

With Trench II during the 1995 trial excavations at 106 - 110 Foregate St., a surface of indeterminate function, overlaid by finds-rich, Roman period, deposits was identified (1). The surface was composed of small to medium sized sandstone blocks and fragments, the largest of which averaged 0.25 by 0.23 by 0.12m, and the smallest 0.14 by 0.12 by 0.12m. They were spread evenly and level, and impressed into a highly compact sandy clay (1).

A large amount of animal bone and ceramics were recovered from immediately above this feature, and many of the finds had been burned (1).
