Full Description

Evidence of Roman activity in the area was first recorded in 2005 when a section of a ditch with an apparent terminus was recorded during development related fieldwork, dating evidence was based on a single Romano-British sherd from the fill of the ditch (1).

The ditch was later subject to further investigation in 2007 when it was revealed to form part of a larger horseshoe shaped enclosure approximately 5m in diameter with the entrance towards the east. A second sherd of Samian ware was recovered from the fill of the enclosure and a date of approximately 1st to 3rd century AD was suggested. (2)
