Monument record 152/1/2 - Earthworks south of the Cloud Plantation

Please read our .

Summary

Aerial photographs dating from the 1940s show a number of linear earthworks, some geological in origin, but some which may be part of a field system which predates the present nineteenth century field systems established upon the enclosure of Black Heath Common and The Cloud in July 1831. Modern aerial photographs seem to indicate that these features have been ploughed out. This is possibly a continuation of the features identified to the north and west (CHER152/1/1 & 152/1/0). The Cloud is a distinctive hill overlooking the Cheshire Plain at Congleton, it stands at over 1100ft.
