Description
Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in June 2024 during the removal of overburden within the north-west extension of South Arclid Silica Sand Quarry, near Sandbach in Cheshire. This continued work undertaken in 2022 immediately to the north of the current area. The area of the soil strip comprised former agricultural land located to the north-west of the existing working area, an overall area of around 3 hectares. Removal of the topsoil revealed a network of land-drains cut into the underlying clay. A ditch running broadly north-south and probably an open drain forming a field boundary recorded on mid-19th century historic mapping was located centrally within the area. (1)
