Location taken to be that of the 19th century house labelled Highfield on OS first edition maps. The same source includes two photographs of excavated Roman iron furnaces in Northwich (p.15) and discusses the process of iron production. (1) 1972/3 - Rescue excavation by Northwich Archaeological Group (B.Curzon) at Highfield.
