Description

Clearance of the site prior to the construction of a showroom for the Grosvenor Motor Company c.1963. It's clear from contemporary photographs that this part of the site, which contained buildings associated with the Malt Store, was cleared leaving southernmost building and the terrace on the northern side of Duke Street intact. The demolition exposed a substantial medieval masonry wall at the northern end of the site adjacent to St Olave's. This is believed to be part of the substantial hall owned by Richard the Engineer.
