Description

Renewed excavations, following work carried out in the 1930s (ECH3238) at the Roman amphitheatre began in April 1960, with the focus of work on two areas: the first was the cellar at what had been the recently demolished St John's House, and the second in the line of the boundary wall between the Convent and the 'excavation site' (1). Radial walls and a minor entrance were found in the cellar area, in addition to traces of an earlier timber-framed building. Similar features were found along the boundary wall (1).
