Description

This event represents a desk-based assessment, the excavation of trial (evaluation) trenches and a GPR survey of the area within the Pemberton House site and car park (not the adjacent roadways). The desk-based assessment concluded that the likelihood of Roman remains preserved in situ was high, and while Saxon and medieval period activities would have occurred here, their preservation was less likely. The excavations led to the identification and recording of Roman Centurion's House and a road surface, in addition to the intervallum road surface elsewhere. Some of the Roman period remains were truncated by post medieval cellaring. The full results of the geophysical survey were not reported in (1).
