Full Description
A geophysical survey, combined with a brief archaeological evaluation, at Pemberton House, off Pemberton Rd. was carried out in 1989 (1). The evaluation is reported only in a cursory manner, but it mentions that in Trial Hole C, a '...hint of Saxon gravelled road [was] possible' (1). The evidence for this assertion is not explained, and it should be noted that sections of a Roman road surface and kerb were also reported in this trench (1). No other information on the nature of this find is available.
