Description
A watching brief carried out on land adjacent to a new parade ring on Chester's racecourse, between October and November 2006. No archaeological deposits dating to the period prior to the nineteenth century were uncovered, but earlier archaeological deposits were thought to have possibly been sealed by the exposed naturally formed silts and were not affected during the development groundworks. The watching brief identified the remains of late post-medieval features associated with temporary structures erected during fairs, circuses and race meetings.
