Description
Final element of a programme of intermittent archaeological mitigation carried out in connection with works designed to stabilise the retaining wall of St Olave's Church retaining wall on the lower Bridge St. Frontage, carried out in March 2010. This part of the project involved the excavation of four trenches, two to the front of the church, and two to the south side. Many post-medieval burials were exposed in high density, and substantial medieval masonry survives. Significantly, deposits containing pottery of Saxon date were also identified, and Roman deposits containing possible features were also reported.
