Description

A new public lift is to be built in the light well in the centre of Chester Town Hall, this development enabled the investigation of archaeology beneath the town hall and enabled the identification of significant archaeological deposits. The earliest deposit of sandstone and mortar was thought to be of Roman date, and was truncated by a pit filled with charcoal and one piece of sixteenth or seventeenth century pottery. A possible post-medieval surface sealed these deposits.
