Full Description
Evidence of a probable 17th century pit was encountered during archaeological investigations at the Town Hall in 2010. The evidence consisted of a rock cut pit feature [context 7] containing small quantities of animal bone exhibiting evidence of butchery, as well as quantities of charcoal suggestive of hearth clearance material from industrial activity in the area. Although datable finds were limited, a few pottery fragments suggested a period of use in the early 17th century.
