Description
Site visit to inspect trenches for extension at the back of 4 Ryders Street. Trench was dug to (circa) just over a metre. Natural visible at this depth. Directly above the natural was 90cm of disturbed topsoil. Substantial fragments of plastic noted just above the natural yellow sand (ie at this interface with the topsoil). A few fragments of clay pipe and post medieval pottery were also noted in the excavated material. Our hypothesis is that the area was topsoil stripped prior to the building of this house.
