Description
The survey indicated that a large amount of evidence for mining still survives at Stormy Point and Pillar Mine, but that these remains are in danger from erosion. The mine spoil, probably dating from the Bronze Age to the Nineteenth Century, is being washed down-slope by rainwater. In addition this exposes early mining evidence, originally protected by its burial within that spoil, to erosion. This is particularly evident within the main north-west to south-east fault at Pillar Mine where the erosion of mine spoil has exposed previously buried earlier Bronze Age workings on the rock face and which are now subject to erosion. In addition a buried land surface survives intact at Pillar Mine which may also be of Bronze Age date.
