Full Description
Hand Dressing Floor. Recent Visitor erosion and storm damage gulleying masks a thin layer of old mine spoil on the rock terrace below Devil's Grave. In places the remnants of small piles of enriched malachite stained rock can be seen amongst the quarried rock exposures and possible stone foundations of a dressing floor. The area is poorly defined and it is uncertain which date it can be associated with. It would seem likely that the most recent dressing relates to Rock Mine but Devil's Grave cannot be totally eliminated. Some vitrified rock fragments were found during the course of a geochemical soil survey of the area, therefore early smelting must have taken place in the vicinity (1).
