Description

An audit of the information relating to the archaeology and history of the area of the Meadows, Chester. Prior to the enclosure of the land in the late eighteenth century, it was used as common water meadows, although there is evidence for cultivation in the northwestern corner of the site in the later middle ages. A windmill of uncertain date is thought to have existed on the southwestern edge of the site. There is no information on Roman or earlier activity on the Meadows, although prehistoric exploitation of its wetland resources may be conjectured. (1-2)
