Description

Boughton, 1978: During road widening in Boughton in 1978, pebble surfaces, possibly attributable to the Roman period, and aligned approximately east-west, were revealed (1, p185) along with several wood pipes and modern tram lines (2) 23 Castle St., 1978: A fragment of a Roman mirror was found at Castle Street during non-archaeological excavations associated with building operations. The mirror is heavily encrusted, but the edge has a sharp, well-defined bevel. It was said to likely date to the first half of the first century. (1, p173).
