Description

Archaeological salvage recording carried out on the site of the Odeon Cinema, Hunter Street in around 1935-36 by Newstead in advance of development on the site. (1) Although much of the area had been truncated by Georgian and Victorian cellars, especially those of Northgate House which were dug into the bedrock it was possible to identify some Roman architecture. Originally thought to be part of a barrack block, it is now believed to form part of a larger building in the centre of Chester. (2)
