Description

WWII “Pill Box” Anti-Invasion Fort LL58 (Previously LL PG/5) Address: Station Road, Parkgate Architect: Ministry of Defence Date: 1940 Description A hexagonal reinforced concrete structure with splayed machine gun ports on each face. Access at rear shielded by concrete blast wall. Part of a defensive line across the Wirral (see also Hooton, Spital, Bromborough) to protect Birkenhead docks from a paratroop (or even landing craft) invasion on the Dee Estuary. Condition Fair. Current Use Now in the care of Wirral Country Park. Updated March 2007
