Summary

WWII “Pill Box” Anti-Invasion Fort Station Road Parkgate A hexagonal reinforced concrete structure with splayed machine gun ports on each face and a rear access shielded by a concrete blast wall. This building forms part of a defensive line across the Wirral (see also Hooton, Spital, Bromborough) built in 1940 by the Ministry of Defence to protect Birkenhead docks from a paratroop (or even landing craft) invasion on the Dee Estuary.

Description

A hexagonal reinforced concrete structure with splayed machine gun ports on each face.

Access at rear shielded by concrete blast wall.

Part of a defensive line across the Wirral (see also Hooton, Spital, Bromborough) to protect Birkenhead docks from a paratroop (or even landing craft) invasion on the Dee Estuary.

Condition

Fair.

Current Use

Now in the care of Wirral Country Park.
