Summary

Hooton and Parkgate Branch line joined the Chester to Birkenhead Railway south east of Roften Works at Hooton. Disused line now forms part of the Wirral way walking route.

Hooton to West Kirby line. Initially planned as a branch line to Parkgate to provide access to Neston Colliery and to an area with the potential for residential development. The branch line opened in October 1866 and terminated at Parkgate. In 1881 the line was extended to the existing station at West Kirby to serve the developing residential areas along the coast. The extension opened in 1896. The line was closed to passengers in September 1956 and to freight in 1962.

This map depicts the branch line which runs from a junction with the Birkenhead Railway located to the immediate south of Hooton Station and terminates at Parkgate Station. The railway comprises a single line and serves Hadlow Road Station and Neston Station in addition to Hooton and Parkgate Station. The branch line is labelled the Birkenhead Railway (Hooton and Parkgate Branch).

This map depicts the branch line which runs from a junction with the Birkenhead Railway located to the immediate south of Hooton Station to join the Wirral Railway at West Kirby. Parkgate Station has been moved to accommodate the extension of the line to the north and the line here connects to a mineral line serving the nearby colliery (CHER 30/3). The railway comprises a single line, though passing loops have been constructed at Hadlow Road Station and Neston Station. The branch line is labelled the L&NW & GWJR Hooton and West Kirby.
