Description

SJ 87 SW 7/140 NETHER ALDERLEY C.P. CONGLETON ROAD (East Side) Dovecote at Alderley Park 14/4/1967 GV II Formerly dovecote, now store: early C19 for Sir J T=Stanley. Irregular bond orange brick with buff sandstone dressings. Pyramidal Kerridge stone-slate roof. Tall building, hexagonal in plan. Stone plinth, rusticated quoins and modillion cornice. Each face has a circular hole (now either glazed or blocked) with an ashlar surround and a keystone at each cardinal point.Apex of roof has an open wooden bellcote with a weathervane. Interior: tiers of holes in the brickwork have projecting brick ledge in front of them; these number over 400. Listing NGR: SJ8453974908
