Description
The Disley Conservation Area is centred on Fountain Square, which is dominated by the Ram’s Head Hotel, an early Victorian inn with Tudor Gothic details. The conservation area stretches along the busy main road (A6) - Market Street and Buxton Road West - with long terraces of mid- to late-19th century houses on either side. This contrasts with the smaller, much quieter lanes - Buxton Old Road and Ring O’Bells Lane - which lie to the south of Fountain Square, and which retain a rural quality with stone walls, mature trees, and more scattered development, some of it dating back to the 18th century. To the north Jackson’s Edge Road – again retaining a quite rural quality contrasting with the busy main road.
