Abstract/Summary
Report of an Archaeological Watching Brief carried out in 2021 during groundworks at land at Low Ridge, Burwardsley road, Tattenhall, Cheshire CH3 9QF. Two parallel linear features were recorded on the western side of the site, producing pottery of a Roman date of between the late 1st and early 3rd centuries AD. The features are possibly the remains of a Roman timber building in the form of a beam slot and parallel eaves drip. A likely fire-pit/hearth was also recorded in the presumed interior of the timber structure but this remains undated. Bulk samples produced quantities of wood charcoal and showed the fuel source to be oak.
