Abstract/Summary

Archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken during groundworks associated with alterations and conversion of an agricultural barn building at Manor Farm, Ollerton, Knutsford. Manor Farm is a Grade II listed building of late 17th-century date, with later additions. The barn, to the west of the farmhouse, is curtilage listed, and of a similar date; it has a partially surviving timber-framed core along with a number of timber rafters. Both buildings are shown on the tithe map of 1848, the barn as a north–south linear agricultural range. A single feature, interpreted as a probable small pool or pond of natural origin, was encountered during the monitoring. No further features or deposits were encountered and it became apparent that the groundworks associated with the conversion works had disturbed little of archaeological significance.
