Abstract/Summary

The remains of three late nineteenth century buildings associated with the former Langley Print Works were subject to building recording at Levels 1 or 2 in 2018. The work was undertaken as part of a proposal to re-develop the site which would include demolition of the buildings. (R4600a-c) Building 3 (SJ 9410 7130) is the remains of a building which appears on the OS 1882 First Edition map and which formed part of the print works complex. Only the underside of the building remains and there has been much reconstruction making interpretation difficult. The under passageway has random stonework with brick basket weave arches, a stone retaining wall and a soffit construction of concrete intermediately supported by steelwork.
