Abstract/Summary
A desk-based assessment was produced in 2021 (Technical Appendix D: Cultural Heritage) in advance of a proposed mixed use development of up to 1,200 residential units. It found that there is some documentary evidence for activity at the site of Winnington Bridge during the 17th-century Civil War and, despite the fact that much of the proposed development area was formerly occupied by parkland around Winnington Hall, the intensive industrial use of the area during the 19th and 20th centuries has likely destroyed any earlier evidence.
