Abstract/Summary

A programme of historic building recording was undertaken at BSP House, Chester Railway Station, Station Road, Chester, for which outline planning permission and listed building consent have been granted, for refurbishment and extension of existing building to provide 4 self-contained flats with parking and associated external works. The subject of the survey is a building situated at Chester railway station and is centred at Ordnance Survey grid reference SJ 41231 67015. Chester railway station is a Grade II* Listed Building. The building is two-storey and is undesignated. Cartographic evidence demonstrates that it was purpose-built as a Lamp Room, comprising two bays, and a urinal, both associated with the Railway Station. The structure is orientated south-west/north-east, with the urinal in the south-west part. Latterly, its use is unknown and it was vacant at the time of the survey. It is labelled as ‘Store’ on recent surveys. The building has undergone significant modifications including stopping up of windows and doorways, removal of dividing walls, the replacement of floors and insertion of new doorways.
