A programme of historic building recording was undertaken at BSP House, Chester Railway Station, Station Road, Chester, in advance of refurbishment and extension of the existing building. Chester railway station is a Grade II* Listed Building. The subject of the recording is a two-storey building, centred at SJ 41231 67015, which is undesignated. Cartographic evidence demonstrates that it was purpose-built as a Lamp Room, comprising two bays, and a urinal, both associated with the Railway Station. The structure is orientated south-west/north-east, with the urinal in the south-west part. Latterly, its use is unknown and it was vacant at the time of the survey. It is labelled as ‘Store’ on recent surveys. The building has undergone significant modifications including stopping up of windows and doorways, removal of dividing walls, the replacement of floors and insertion of new doorways.
