Abstract/Summary

A geophysical (magnetometer) survey, covering approximately 38.5 hectares, was carried out, in October 2014, on the north-western periphery of Congleton, in support of the proposed Congleton Link Road. No anomalies of obvious archaeological activity have been identified within the proposed route corridor, with the majority of the anomalies identified being indicative of the post-medieval agricultural landscape as depicted on historical Ordnance Survey maps. A single area of possible archaeological potential has been identified towards the east of the route, including a possible boundary and pits, although an agricultural origin is possible.
