Abstract/Summary
As part of an ongoing scheme of archaeological work, a watching brief was undertaken at Grosvenor Park Road, Chester, prior to development of the site. The archaeological work was undertaken over eight days between the 28th October and the 12th November 2018 comprising of the archaeological supervision of trenches dug for the insertion of drainage pipes into the new development; and over five days between the 14th and the 18th March 2019 which comprised of the archaeological supervision of a single large trench for the installation of an attenuation tank. This report describes the results of the final phase of works under the programme of mitigation whose main results are described in the report dated July 2018 (ECH6705).
The investigation revealed that the entire area had been heavily disturbed previously for the installation of services. Due to this no significant archaeological remains survived with only a small portion of late 19th century to early 20th century brick flooring along with a small section of sandstone wall foundation surviving in the drainage trenches, along with a small section of a modern brick and sandstone-built planter surviving in the attenuation tank trench.
