Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief was carried out in 2018 during demolition and groundworks at Queens Park School, Handbridge, Chester. Development has been permitted for a three storey extension to house an independent education facility for Christleton International Studio (CIS). The watching brief was implemented because of the potential for archaeological remains on the site as a Roman cemetery, quarry and road existed in the surrounding area, within what is now Handbridge. The suburban area of Queens Park was developed in the mid-nineteenth century, with mills and factories lining its border with the River Dee.
