Abstract/Summary
Article/report written by a group of specialists from the Bio-cultural Archaeology Laboratories, Department of Archaeology, University of Nottingham, on the assemblage of animal remains recovered from excavations at Witter Place/Canal side, in 2002. The material, dating from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries, consists primarily of cattle horn-cores, along with butchered dog and horse bones and is of industrial nature. As well as providing insights into the workings of tanning, tawing and horn-working trades, the assemblage offers information on animal types. Detailed metrical, palaeopathological and isotope analyses of the dog remains have provided a rare insight into human dog relationships in this period.
