Abstract/Summary
A Strip, Map and Record archaeological evaluation was undertaken in June 2017 on two areas of land at Fountain Lane, Davenham, prior to a proposed residential development. The areas were intended to target two buildings set within enclosures on Mere Heath which were recorded on a historic map dated 1805. The trenches did not identify any buildings and it is likely that the buildings were demolished and foundations removed by later ploughing. The archaeological work recorded a modern drain and areas of root disturbance which likely relate to woodland/ scrub recorded on the 1840 enclosure award and the First Edition Ordnance Survey map.
