Abstract/Summary
A site located at City House, Chester, is proposed for development. This report contains results of cartographic, archaeological, and documentary research into the site undertaken by L – P : Archaeology on behalf of CLS Ltd.
The site is within the City Centre Conservation Area and adjacent to the Canal Side Conservation Area, both of which contain local and statutory Listed Buildings. These would not be affected by the proposals.
There is potential for surviving Roman features and buried agricultural soils dating to the Roman and Medieval periods within the site area. These would be impacted by groundworks and an initial stage of trial trenching is suggested to inform on a suitable mitigation strategy.
