Abstract/Summary

The finds recorded within the Cheshire HER dating to the Early Iron Age / Romano British period and the medieval period indicate some potential for archaeological remains of these periods to survive within the assessment site. On the basis of this potential the Development Control Archaeologist for the Cheshire Archaeology Planning Advisory Service has indicated that they are likely to recommend that archaeological evaluation trenching is undertaken prior to the determination of planning consent, with any further archaeological works that may be required on the basis of the results of the evaluation secured by condition. Typically the scope of such an evaluation would comprise a 5% sample (by area) of the assessment site. However, given that parts of the assessment site are currently occupied by areas of concrete, standing buildings and slurry ponds the scope of the evaluation will have to be limited to the open areas making up the north-eastern and south-eastern portions of the assessment site.
