Abstract/Summary
An archaeological field survey was undertaken at Browside Farm, Lyme Handley, in 2003, as part of an assessment for DEFRA's Countryside Stewardship Scheme Upland Option. The survey area comprised one land holding south of Disley. A systematic search of farmland was done and discoveries sketch-plotted at 1:2500. An extensive archive search was not undertaken, so the survey focussed on identified archaeology from the field survey.
Browside Farm is of eighteenth or nineteenth century date; the farm buildings comprise the farmhouse range and three outbuildings to the south-west and south. The farmhouse, which is now one consolidated building, was originally built as a row of three estate cottages for workers from the Lyme Hall Estate.
