Abstract/Summary
An archaeological investigation was undertaken in 1998 following the identification of a strong metal-detecting signal, by a local metal detector, close to the locaton of a previously recovered lead salt pan of Roman date on farmland at Shavington, near Crewe. A small trench measuring 2m by 2m lead to the recovery of a further lead salt pan, inscribed, neatly folded and purposefully buried within a small pit. It was sent to Northwich Salt Museum for further study.
