Abstract/Summary
A series of 'packs' providing resource material for those researching the history of a pariticular townsip. Each pack follows a standard format including the following:-
- A Domesday Book entry for the township, or for a place which may be regarded as its 'ancestor'. A facsimile, transcript and English version are provided.
- An extract from 'Omerod's History of Cheshire', which briefly traces the history of the township, chiefly in terms of land-owning families and the Church.
- Extracts from five county 'Directories' dating from between the mid-nineteenth century to 1939.
- A statistical abstract from the Census of 1821 and of 1831, plus a population summary, 1801-1971.
- A selection of maps, inculding a tithe map, three Ordnanace Survey maps (first, second and third editions).
- A reading list.
