Abstract/Summary

Documentary research undertaken in 1987 by George Twigg using a document dating to 1624 detailing the salt houses in Nantwich. The original document is held in the Cholmondeley Estate Papers at the Cheshire Record Office (CRO ref DCH/Y/10/1). A late 17th century transcript (circa 1670?) of the document is also held in the Cholmondeley collection (DCH/K/5/1). Twigg produced a transcript of the document (SCH7366) detailing the size, location and ownership of the individual salt houses; he also produced an accompanying map (SCH2118); he later produced revised copies of the map. See also SCH7367.
