Abstract/Summary

Report detailing archaeological assessment in advance of development at King Street, Northwich. A desk-based survey was carried out supplemented with a field survey of the area. King Street follows the line of the Roman Road between Middlewich and Warrington and represents the principal site of archaeological interest within the study area. Other sites identified largely represent elements of a post medieval, rural landscape, comprising field boundaries, marl pits and brick kilns, all likely to be no earlier than 17th century in date. An earlier site may exist at High House Farm as this is referenced in 1609. Additionally a ditch was recorded on the parish boundary but it is uncertain whether this was dug as the parish boundary or whether it is an earlier re-used feature.
