Abstract/Summary
The moated site at Minshull Vernon comprises a double moat and associated cultivated fields and later ridge and furrow. The site was identified as being suitable for a large scale RCHME hachured survey in the context of a need to mount a training exercise for new RCHME field survey staff. The resulting earthwork survey would also be useful for the longer-term management of the site. RCHME surveyed the moat together with the immediate surrounding landscape at a scale of 1:1000 to identify archaeological features associated with the moat and to provide a wider landscape context for the site. A standard RCHME level 3 descriptive and analytical account was produced to accompany the drawn survey plan. The account comprises the detailed findings of the archaeological investigation. A National Monuments Record (NMR) monument record was created for the ponds in Larch Wood as a result of field observation made during this survey.
