Please read our .

Summary

Mr Stones, rector of Coddington recorded the existence of a camp. "I have," says Mr Stones "with great pleasure frequently viewed the remains of a small Roman camp at Burton, not far from Stapleford. Indeed the Saxon name, and the Roman coins of Dr Tilston which have formerley been discovered here, gave me the first hint of making any enquiries about it". There is a slight cropmark or earthwork visible on aerial photographs taken by the RAF Aps in the 1940s. In 1987 it was just tracable on the ground in a fragmentary state. It may be the Roman camp, but insufficent survives to make a sound analysis on the field evidence alone.
