<1> Various, Written Communication to the HER, O Bjorkstrand 11/10/90 (Written Communication). SCH3756.
Found on the 'dredge head' when rasied for cleaning during sand extraction at Arclid Quarry South. The tooth was dredged out at "60' below water" and identified by Professor Peter Worsley, who also took sames of peat and clay from the area around the tooth.
<2> Worsley P, 1992, A pre-Devensian mammoth from Arclid, Cheshire (Article in Journal). SCH5382.
A broken Mammuthus Primigenius tooth was recovered by a dredger working the Chelford Sands from a horizon at least 27 m below ground surface. Organic-rich sediment infilling two of the tooth cavities has yielded pollen spectra from a post-temperate substage of an interglacial. This is tentatively correlated with the Ipswichian.
<3> Unknown, 1893-Present, Sandbach Chronicle, 17/10/1990 (Newspaper-Magazine). SCH5383.
Elephants tooth measuring about five inches long and four inches wide which could be up to 200,000 years old.
