Summary

Logboat dredged from the old river channel near its junction with the diversion at Arpley in 1929.It is 11 ft long (3.35metres) x 2 ft 4 ins wide (71 cm) and 22 ins deep (56 cm).It is damaged and may have been longer.The find spot is only a few yards to the east of the find spot of Warrington logboat 2. It is made of oak and has a radiocarbon date of 958AD.

Full Description

Logboat dredged from the old river channel near its junction with the diversion at Arpley on 22 June 1929. It is ll ft long x 2 ft 4 ins wide and 22 ins deep. It is damaged and may have been longer. The find spot is only a few yards to the east of the find spot of Warrington longboat 2 (1). Examined by McGrail 1974. Part of the end and part of one side has been lost since Dunlop recorded it in 1930. Made of oak. Insufficient data for reconstruction. Interpreted as provisional canoe. Form (2). Radiocarbon date 922 BP +/- 65 c.ad 958 (Q-1394) (2) (3).
