Description

Each trench revealed 20th century make up resulting from several activities on the site. A series of dredging of the Manchester Ship Canal has brought in a great deal of sand and silt. Dumping of industrial materials such as metal, wood and building debris was identified in numerous trenches. This raising of ground level by dumping materials may indicate that archaeological deposits survive at depth on the site. (1)
