Monument record 719/1/1 - Roman internal road at Waterloo Street

Please read our .

Summary

In 1976 Waterloo Road was dug up for gas inspection revealing the agger (embankment) of the Roman road. As excavations elsewhere in the Roman Fort area proved there are buildings and streets that run at right angles to the present road, this probably indicates that Waterloo Road is on the line of one of the Roman internal streets. Early maps indicate that Waterloo Road and Peckforton Road were in existence before housing development
