Summary

Whirley Hall is a Grade II* listed building. It was built around 1670 and has had 20th century alterations and additions. The Hall is brick with buff sandstone dressings and a stone-slate roof. This house was an addition to a timber framed hall, now demolished. It has a five bay symmetrical front with two shaped gables.

Full Description

Whirley Hall, Whirley Lane. Hall, c.1670 with 20th century alterations and additions. Brick with buff sandstone dressings. Stone-slate roof. Five bay symmetrical front. Brick bands at first, second and third floors. Above each pair of end bays is a stone-coped, shaped, gabled dormer with an obelisk finial. End gables are stone-coped on stone kneelers. Two bay 20th century extensions to left and right in keeping. Interior: original ground plan but only chamfered ceiling beams. This house was an addition to a timber framed hall, now demolished. A stone with '1599' was found during renovation but the existing features point to a late 17th century date. Full architectural description (1). Symmetrical facade in 1950s.
