Monument record 1621 - Hollingworth Smithy

As part of a programme of archaeological evaluation undertaken in 1993 in advance of a road scheme investigations were made into the possible location of Hollingworth Smithy. The smithy is labelled on 1st edition OS 6" map of 1882 and was probably located at or close to the site of the medieval smithy. This smithy was apparently demolished in 1929 during road widening and probably now lies beneath A523.
